Complex Mental Health Assessment

Life is complicated. You’re shaped by your unique temperament, brain wiring, and the many experiences you’ve lived through. With an accurate diagnosis, you can understand what’s led to the various challenges you’re currently experiencing.

About this assessment

A complex mental health assessment can help to tease apart neurodivergent characteristics and trauma-related patterns of coping. It can also shine a light on other psychological diagnoses that require therapy and support, such as OCD, anxiety, and personality vulnerabilities.

An assessment is your first step to gaining clarity on what supports are available to you, such as funding and accommodations that can make navigating the world a little easier.

Designed for anyone who:

  • Is navigating multiple mental health challenges, including personality disorders, trauma, bipolar, ADHD, Autism, OCD, anxiety and depression.
  • Is being supported by care agencies, community services, and not-for-profit organisations
  • Has a forensic history
  • Has a history of addictions or substance use problems
  • Is navigating challenges with literacy, numeracy or learning
  • Has a suspected intellectual disability
  • Has a history of trauma

Gain a comprehensive understanding of what makes you unique

Ready to make progress towards what matters most to you? The better you understand yourself, the better placed you’ll be to navigate the world with clarity, confidence, and self-awareness. An accurate diagnosis will help you pinpoint the range of challenges and co-occurring challenges that are shaping your experience of the world.

From there, we’ll be able to offer handpicked recommendations to help you feel supported to make the necessary changes to move forward in your life. Plus, an assessment and diagnosis can unlock the funding, services and support you need to feel your best. It’s all about identifying your strengths and areas of opportunity while learning how to navigate difficult situations you might encounter.

Complete an Intake Form

The more information provided, the better! This will allow our team of therapists to determine the most appropriate assessment approach.

Developing an Assessment Plan

Typically, two or more therapists will review your intake forms—depending on the complexity of your concerns and history. From there, we’ll pinpoint which assessment approach is right for you. We’ll then share a quote for you to review. Your assessment will be booked at a time that works best for your schedule.

Assessment

Usually, your assessment will take place over a couple of days. We’ll also include partners, close relatives, or support workers in this process to gain a fuller understanding of your story.

Feedback and Recommendations

We’ll arrange a feedback session to share the results. All therapists involved in the assessment will be on-hand to discuss our recommendations and walk you through your final report.

Throughcare

We will do our best to support you to find the help that has been recommended. Sometimes we can provide this for you but other times we may need to refer you to another service. Either way, we will support you through your journey in any way we can.

How to prepare for assessment day

We’ll email over a pre-assessment questionnaire prior to your appointment. Ideally, this should be completed at least one week before your appointment. We’ll also ask to contact the person who knows you best to gather some additional information, either through a questionnaire or a quick phone call. When you come to the assessment, do everything as you normally would, including taking any regular medications.
