About this assessment

As a neurodivergence-affirming clinic, we celebrate differences and want to help you better understand yourself—without shame or self-criticism. If you find yourself often feeling burnt out from commitments, regularly overstimulated or feel like you have limited social battery, a neurodivergence assessment might be a helpful step for you.

Our assessment process is sensitive to your needs and designed to recognise your strengths. Our skilled therapists are well-versed in assessing neurodivergence in adults and here to help you receive an accurate diagnosis.

Designed for:

  • Having difficulties managing responsibilities (such as paying bills), being organised for appointments, and keeping track of finances
  • Feeling overwhelmed and not able to focus, get started or complete important tasks
  • Experiencing difficulty coping with new demands or demands outside of a current routine
  • Noticing that others are doing things more easily than they are but don’t know why
  • Finding it difficult to meet expectations in the workplace
  • Finding it takes a lot of energy and time to adjust to changes or unexpected occurrences
  • Experiencing challenges with impulsivity (such as spending or gambling) or experiencing repetitive, compulsive behaviours
  • Keen to have a better understanding of themselves and their unique way of relating to others and the world

Gain the clarity you need to better understand yourself

Assessing for neurodivergence is all about building understanding, certainty and self-awareness. Our therapists will work with you to understand your story, your unique experience and any differences within your communication patterns, attentional capacity, interests, daily preferences, organisation, and relationships.

From there, we’ll be able to recommend strategies and techniques to help you navigate the world with confidence, self-acceptance and greater wellbeing.

Receiving an assessment can empower you to better advocate for yourself. Plus, an accurate assessment can help you access the support needed to manage your daily responsibilities and even receive additional funding and help, from NDIS funding to workplace accommodations.

Complete an Intake Form

Firstly, we ask you to complete a questionnaire that is broadly describes your concerns and needs for assessment. If we need more information we will give you a call.

Developing an Assessment Plan

Our therapists will review your form to confirm what type of assessment is best suited to your needs and goals. Once you are happy with our recommendations, we will organise the right clinicians to provide this assessment service (as a large health service we have a number of different options for assessing adolescents and adults).

Assessment

On the assessment day, we’ll use a mix of interviewing and activities to get to know you over a few hours. We’ll focus our questions on your history as well as strengths and current concerns.

Feedback and Recommendations

At the end of the assessment we will provide feedback to you where we explain the outcomes of the assessment, how we are understanding your needs, and we will provide you with recommendations for how to get the best and most appropriate support.

Throughcare

We will do our best to support you to find the help that has been recommended. Sometimes we can provide this for you but other times we may need to refer you to another service. Either way, we will support you through your journey in any way we can.

How to prepare for assessment day

We’ll email over a pre-assessment questionnaire prior to your appointment. Ideally, this should be completed at least one week before your appointment. We’ll also ask to contact the person who knows you best to gather some additional information, either through a questionnaire or a quick phone call. When you come to the assessment, do everything as you normally would, including taking any regular medications.
