Gain support and tools to help your child thrive
From treating and navigating mental health disorders (such as anxiety or depression) to supporting neurodevelopmental differences (like ADHD and Autism), our team is here to help your child understand themselves, harness their strengths and manage their environment.
Therapy might be helpful if…
- Your child is showing behavioural differences, such as being fearful in certain situations
- Your child seems withdrawn, irritable, aggressive or is displaying persistent low mood
- You’re exhausted by specific behaviours and unsure how to support your child
- Your child has been assessed and diagnosed and needs support to ensure their healthy development
Which type of therapy is right for your child?
It can be overwhelming to figure out what support your child needs, especially if they’re navigating multiple complex challenges. That’s why we’re here to walk you through your therapy options.
A snapshot of the therapy process
Our team are focused on building open, supportive relationships with children and parents to get to the root of why current challenges have arisen. We take a collaborative approach that works with you and your child to ensure you know exactly what to expect throughout the entire journey.
What the therapy process looks like:
Intake
Our Client Engagement Team will collect information about the concerns or problems that have brought you and your child to the clinic. Make sure you have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan and Referral if you’re looking to secure a Medicare Rebate.
Initial session
Depending on the concerns, the initial session may be parent only or it will involve time spent with you and your child—separately, together, or both. We’ll adjust our approach depending on what works for your family.
Sessions two and three
Our first few sessions together involve understanding your concerns and what your family hopes to gain from these sessions. We’ll pinpoint what factors are underlying the presenting concerns and we’ll develop an action plan for how to reduce your child’s struggles and move towards you and your child’s goals.
Session four (and beyond)
This is where we use the most appropriate, evidence-based methods to make positive, meaningful changes in your child’s life. Our clinicians will check-in on your child’s progress regularly and we’ll continue to seek your feedback to learn what is and isn’t working. We’ll work together until you and your child feel your concerns have been adequately addressed and you’re confident to move forward on your own.
Why we take an integrated approach to care
At the Kids Clinic, we want to gain an accurate picture of what’s going in your child’s world. By collaborating with a range of clinicians and care providers—from allied health professionals to school teachers and partners—we can understand the challenges your child is facing in a range of settings.
Kids don’t operate in a silo, they’re part of their family system and their community. So we consider these systems and use the most up to date methods to assess and support your child.
