Therapy for Autism & ADHD

As neurodevelopmental conditions, Autism and ADHD impact the way your child relates to the environment and people around them. While children with Autism tend to struggle with social interactions, understanding emotions and may encounter sensory processing differences, children with ADHD tend to have difficulties with focus and attention, remembering and organising things, and may be hyperactive and impulsive.

About this therapy

Receiving a diagnosis can be a challenging time for children. But we want to help you and your child understand what this condition means for them and what challenges they might be encountering (and why). Plus, you may need extra support managing co-occurring mental health conditions, like anxiety, OCD and low mood or impact on self-esteem.

Together, we’ll work with you and your child to help them:

  • Understand why they see the world differently and realise that there’s nothing wrong with themselves
  • Gain a better understanding of their emotion
  • Build friendships and foster meaningful relationships
  • Enjoy fun, happy and playful times at home and school
  • Discover activities they love and learn how to share these interests with others

Our approach

By adopting a holistic approach, our clinicians work collaboratively with you, your child and even their teachers. A big focus will be helping your child self-reflect and identify what they feel good and not-so-good about in their lives.

If there are very specific challenges your child is facing, we can tailor our approach to this area of concern. But, we’re also able to see the bigger picture and explore different factors that may be contributing to a specific challenge, too.

Even once a therapy session is over, we want to ensure your child is empowered to build their skills in their own time. We’ll set you up for success with tailored activities that will address key concerns, ideally in ways that don’t even feel like homework at all.

Integrative support

While every session looks different, our approach to supporting Autism and ADHD leverages:

  • Neuro-affirming practices
  • A child’s unique interests
  • Sensory Tools
  • Multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach
  • A collaborative approach
  • Your child’s NDIS goals

How we’ll monitor your child’s progress

It’s important to us that you feel like your child is moving forward in therapy. This is why we make sure that we have conversations about whether the therapy is working or not. This process of getting your feedback can help your therapist adjust their approach to meet your child’s needs better.

To keep your child moving forward, we’ll use a range of methods to track their progress, such as:

  • We’ll regularly check-in on your child’s wellbeing using digital measures
  • We’ll use verbal check-ins to reflect on progress with specific behaviours
  • We’ll leverage standardised questionnaires at the beginning and end of intervention
  • We’ll encourage you to sit in on some sessions to ensure you’re part of the therapy process
  • For NDIS clients, we’ll use standardised reporting procedures to ensure we’re working towards your child’s NDIS goals
